This year Stones Corner Festival is proud to be supporting the MND and Me Foundation to help raise awareness for MND (Motor Neuron Disease) by collecting donations on the day. The MND and Me foundation was established by Scott Sullivan who was diagnosed with MND in 2010 and unfortunately lost his life in 2014.
MND is a debilitating illness in the nerve cells (neurons) in the brain and spinal cord which affect the person’s ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and breathe and eventually die. There is no known cure for MND.
Currently there are approximately 2000 people affected my MND, and on average 2 more are diagnosed while unfortunately 2 lose their battle with the disease. The cost in 2015 for Australia for helping people with this debilitating illness was approximately $2.37b or about $1.1m for each person that is affected.
The MND and Me foundation aims to offer support and reduce the burden on recently diagnosed patients and their families by providing practical assistance to people living with MND and their Carers.
